In honor of dads

I've been writing some pretty heavy stories lately for apartmentnumber9.com (tears have been shed and everything). As a Father's Day tribute, I wrote this story of a son whose dad is in the early stages of Alzheimer's. During the interview, the son stressed the importance of family, the ways in which we sacrifice for each other, and why we sometimes don't appreciate our parents until it's almost too late. He said "family is the only thing you've always had and you always have. For good, bad, richer, poorer—no matter what." As I worked on his story, my thoughts drifted to my own father, who's been my hero since I was a very little girl, my grandfathers, my brother, and my new father-in-law. All great men. All loved by so many people. To all of the dads out there, thank you for your sacrifice, your support, and your endless love.
