Adventures in urban farming

So you've heard of folks who raise chickens in the city, right? Or maybe a bunny or two? Well how about an entire farm of small animals? I visited a friend of a friend's home last night for dinner, and you wouldn't believe what they have living and growing in their backyard. Beyond the vegetables, herbs, and flowers, they're raising rabbits (and bunnies), quails, turkeys, chickens, ducks (and ducklings). That's a whole lot of mouths to feed, a whole lot of cages to keep clean. But the eggs—oh the eggs! For dinner, we feasted on dishes that incorporated many of the veggies and herbs from the garden, and we were sent home with cartons of just-gathered eggs—including ones of the duck variety, which are apparently great for baking. I, for one, am not looking to get into the urban farming business anytime soon, but having a constant flow of eggs would sure make me think twice!
