Day 2: Reconnect with old friends

by Jourdan Fairchild in

On Day 2, I awoke to a big surprise. We were NYC bound! Andrew, the world's sweetest husband (in my humble opinion) had been planning my birthday weekend for 6 months, coordinating with friends and family to set up a dinner and other shenanigans. Of course, this totally worked because not only was I extremely excited to go back, but one of my challenges happened to be reconnecting with old friends (I didn't plan this—I swear!). I've missed my friends terribly throughout this past year, and while making new friends forces you out of your comfort zone, old friends just feel right, ya know what I mean? These people have seen me at my very best and my very worst. Together we've experienced crappy jobs and promotions, love and heartbreak, the birth of nieces and nephews and death of loved ones. If you're lucky enough to have friends like that, no matter how much time has passed since you've seen each other, it's important to keep them close. Give them a call, plan a visit, write a note. Whatever you do, tell them how much you appreciate all that they've done, do, and will do. And on days when you don't feel like yourself or you don't know where you're "going" in life, they'll be right there, telling you exactly what you need to hear. They help you remember what makes you you. And nothing's more important than that.Desktop8
